Meet Carl, a bariatric patient who says when he meets someone considering bariatric surgery, the first things he tells them is that it’s a very personal decision.

First and foremost, Carl feels you need a great surgeon who isn’t just concerned about the surgery, but who is also concerned about you as an individual – your family and your recovery.

Lastly, he tells people to find a facility where they specialize in bariatric surgery, and where you will get comprehensive support both before and after the surgery.

Carl and his wife, Marsha, started researching bariatrics two years ago. After looking at several facilities and surgeons, they decided to go with Dr. Kim. He said he had never been to North Hills hospital before his bariatric surgery, and from the moment he toured the facility, he felt very good about the hospital.

In addition, Carl can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kim’s nurse Pam  – who was very encouraging and really stayed on top of things for Carl during the insurance-approval process. Carl’s insurance company required a great deal of documentation and information from various health care providers before they would cover the surgery. He said that the process of working with his insurance company was very frustrating and drawn out, but that Pam was his cheerleader – and celebrated with him the day they found out Carl had the green light from his insurance provider.

Carl thinks it’s very important for potential patients to know that all of the nurses at North Hills Hospital are certified in bariatric surgery and support – he feels the support was vital to his health and recovery after having the surgery. Today, Carl said the team is like and extension of his family.

Carl has lost 135 pounds, and he says he would proudly recommend Dr. Kim and North Hills Hospital to anyone considering the surgery.
