We’re pleased to introduce bariatric patient Lorna. Since having the surgery, Lorna says she feels like a new person.

Lorna said that before she had bariatric surgery, she was always tired and didn’t want to participate in any kind of activities. She explained that she held back from family outings to the beach, sporting events, and any other activity that required her going out in public. She took blood pressure medications for over two years, her cholesterol and blood sugar were always borderline, and she felt like her future wasn’t looking very bright. Lorna found that her health was in a steady decline, and she was growing increasingly frustrated.

Then, she lost her father to diabetes and her mother to a heart attack, and she was afraid she was following their path. Lorna explained that it was her love of family that was a big part in her decision to have the surgery. Lorna said she wanted to be able to enjoy life and to grow older by her husband’s side.

Once she made the decision to have the surgery, she and her husband went on a crusade to find a good surgeon. She said that the day they met Dr. Kim, they knew he would be the one. Lorna said she fell in love with Dr. Kim and his staff because she felt they were always there for her, and they answered all of her questions – several times over.

Lorna cautions that the surgery requires a life-long commitment. She now exercises on a daily basis, she walks or runs four times a week, and she always watches what she eats. She explains that now she eats to live, instead of living to eat.

Lorna has lost an astonishing 107 pounds in less than a year.

Buying clothes used to leave Lorna frustrated and upset because it was difficult for her to find anything that really fit. Now it is a different story—she loves going shopping. And she admitted that for the first time in a very long time she bought a bathing suit and felt good about it.

She does not regret having the surgery, and she feels it’s one of the best decisions she’s made in her life because now she can go out and have fun with her kids.

Lorna said that being healthy and feeling good about herself is an awesome feeling. But, even better than that, is being able to watch her kids grow by her husband’s side.
